Student Life

Students are encouraged to take part in extracurricular activities to give them ways to explore their interests and learn to work together in service.

Student Council (House Council)

Student government is made up of our elected House Leaders, Deputies, and two Representatives from
each House, and as of 2023-24, is called the House Council. Student transcripts will show
this activity as “Student Council” since it is a more familiar term with college admissions and other
schools.

House System

Upper school students (5th-12th grades) are sorted by random selection in to four houses, with each house representing one of the four areas of our lives with which we are to love God. Students are encouraged to show spiritual maturity, fruits of the spirit, excellence in academics and athletics, service to others, school spirit, and many more attributes. As they demonstrate these attributes and grow in them throughout the year, students earn points for their individual house. The house with the most points at the end of the year earns a banquet in their honor. Each house has a faculty sponsor. This system was implemented in the 2021-22 school year.

Homecoming

Each January students of all ages take part in Spirit Week activities and competitions, leading up to our Homecoming games and after-parties.  A student-led Homecoming Committee works all year to prepare this event.

Athletics

Fall, winter, & spring sports for boys and girls including soccer, basketball, baseball, softball, cross-country, golf, and cheerleading.

Fine Arts

Growing opportunities for boys and girls including yearbook, basic and advanced art, and Praise Band.

National Honor Society & National Junior Beta Club

Each spring students are inducted into the National Honor Society (10th – 12th). The school chapter of the National Junior Beta Club (6th – 9th) holds inductions after the first quarter.

Junior/Senior Prom

The Junior Class hosts a formal prom for the Senior Class.  A student-led Prom Committee works all year to plan, fundraise, and execute this event.

Community Service

Each year students of all ages take part in service projects for several organizations including Samaritan’s Purse – Operation Christmas Child, Salvation Army, Valuing Life Diaper Drive for Vance County and The Selah Center (pregnancy support) in Clarksville, Va., and God’s Pit Crew in Danville, Va. The CCS chapters of the National Honor Society and National Beta Club also participate in the NCDOT Adopt-a-Highway program and support the local animal shelter.

High School Trips

Each year information is sent to parents of 9th-12th grades for a domestic trip (examples: New York City, Washington, DC, etc.) to gauge interest in moving forward with a trip.  Every other year, an international trip is planned (examples: Italy, Greece, etc.) for the high school.

Yearbook

CCS publishes an annual yearbook which showcases our students in their clubs, activities, events, and classes. Students may elect to take yearbook as an elective during 10th – 12th grade years.
